Dorothy L. Hovermale

Dorothy Largent Hovermale, 91, of Stonecroft Apartments, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Holly Place in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 6, 1906, in Bloomery, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Margaret "Maggie" Omps Largent.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry C. Hovermale, in 1956.

She retired from Hutzler Brothers, Baltimore.

She is survived by three daughters, Freda Meyerhoffer of Taneytown, Md., Marguerite Henn of Circleville, Ohio, and Jean Hettenhouser of Smithsburg; three sons, Harry "Sam" Hovermale of Martinsburg, W.Va., Lloyd E. Hovermale of Westminster, Md., and Thomas D. Hovermale of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Naomi Heishman and Mary Place, both of Winchester, Va.; four brothers, Harold Largent and Paul Largent, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Archie Largent and Ralph Largent, both of Unger, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Harvath; and one grandson, Robert Bergan.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Steve D. Crabtree will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whitacre, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holly Place, 268 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or Woodlawn Cemetery, Route 833, Redland Road, Whitacre, Va. 22625.

M. Edith Frey

SMITHSBURG - M. Edith Frey, 97, of Smithsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro.

Born in Greensburg, Md., on July 24, 1901, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna May Shriver Welty.

Her husband, Raymond R. Frey, died in 1986.

She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Cavetown.

She also was a member of Smithsburg Historical Society, and Hagerstown Charter 89, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, June F. Bachtell of Walkersville, Md.; one granddaughter, Karen B. Byrnes of Walkersville; one grandson, James E. Bachtell of Richmond, Va.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday one hour prior to the service.

Isabelle E. Mullenix

Isabelle Elliott Mullenix, 75, of 870 View St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 25, 1923, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ellis Victor Elliott and Jennie Elizabeth Greenawalt Elliott Goodhart.

She attended Martinsburg High School and graduated from beauty school in Martinsburg.

She owned and operated Issy's Beauty Shop on Center Square in Greencastle until 1963.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 Ladies Auxiliary of Greencastle; FOE 694 Ladies Auxiliary of Hagerstown; and Women of the Moose Chapter 738, Martinsburg, W.Va.

She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Mullenix; a daughter, Nancy A. Gain of Martinsburg; a son, Gregg T. Delauney of Hagerstown; a sister, Betty Lee Fisher of Greencastle; and a brother, Owen E. Elliott of Greencastle.

She was preceded in death by a brother, W. Robert Elliott, in 1982.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel H. May

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hazel Henrietta May, 78, of 753 Warm Springs Ave., and formerly of Falling Waters Road, Williamsport, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 30, 1919, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Samuel F. and Henrietta Kizziah Kerns Hornbaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Abram May, in 1991.

She was employed as a machine operator for Alkahn Label Mill until her retirement.

She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport.

She was a member of AARP and a volunteer at City Hospital.

She is survived by a foster son, David B. Palmer of Williamsport; a brother, Ralph J. Hornbaker of Fairplay; a foster grandson, Daniel B. Palmer of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.
