Taste of the Town: Blondie'sBy KATE COLEMAN / Staff Writer

It's a win, win, win event. It's Taste of the Town, Hospice of Washington County's 14th annual fund-raiser Sunday, Aug. 9, in the grand ballroom of Ramada Inn in Hagerstown.

The 19 area restaurants and vendors will have a chance to show off their specialties. Those who attend can sample that delicious showing off. And both groups can be happy about helping Hospice. Proceeds from the event offset medical expenses for care for terminally ill county residents and their families.

Doors open at 4:45, and dining begins at 5 p.m.

Hospice is a nonprofit, Medicare-certified organization that provides a coordinated program of health care to terminally ill patients who are being cared for in their own homes by a loved one or in skilled nursing facilities, according to Mary Reid, administrative assistant at Hospice.

Hospice offers spiritual support, social services support, nursing, patient-care volunteer and bereavement services.

Taste of the Town: RoccocoLast year's event raised $18,000 and included a benefit auction. There won't be an auction this year - a transitional year, according to Reid. John Costopoulos came aboard as executive director just last week.

The participating restaurants and vendors donate their time, culinary skills and food to Taste of the Town. Several are longtime supporters of the event.

Barbara Arnold, who, along with her husband, Patrick Arnold, owns Blondie's Santa Fe Cafe on West Franklin Street in Hagerstown, is new to Taste of the Town.

The San Antonio, Texas, native moved east about 11 years ago, but she hasn't forgotten the flavors of the Southwest. Blondie's recently celebrated its first anniversary.

Roccoco, A Grand Brasserie, opened its doors on West Washington Street last spring. Co-owner Cheryl Kenney is familiar with Taste of the Town because of her former association with other local restaurants. Hospice is a "worthy cause," Kenney believes.
