Ewing Oil

Ewing Oil Co. Inc. drivers were recently recognized at the company's annual Safety Awards Luncheon.

Drivers received awards totaling $21,000 based on the number of years they had driven without having an accident.

ERA Penn 1st Realty

ERA Penn 1st Realty recently recognized Brenda Bodner, Elva Kroeger, Roger Mellott and Mike West for reaching $1 million in property sales in the first half of 1998.

Jean Rosenberger was recognized for reaching $2 million in sales.

Bodner, Kroeger and Mellott work for the Chambersburg, Pa., office of Penn 1st on Lincoln Way East. Rosenberger and West work from the Waynesboro, Pa., office on East Main Street.

City Hospital

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The radiology department at City Hospital in Martinsburg received a no-findings inspection rating on its mammography equipment.

The inspection is required under the Federal Mammography Quality Standards Act.

The no-findings rating means there were no problems or exceptions found.

City Hospital has passed the Mammography Quality Standards Act inspection for the last two years and was chosen as a site to test inspectors.

The Herald-Mail Co.

Billee Jo Sigler has joined The Herald-Mail Co. as a telephone sales representative in the classified department. Sigler previously worked 13 years for Sears and Roebuck, and also was a sales consultant for Dynamark Securities.

Tricia Pheil has been hired as an outside sales representative in the display advertising department. Pheil most recently served as a district sales representative for Cellular One, and has also worked for Polo Ralph Lauren.

Angela Grimm has accepted a position as a graphic artist in the advertising services department. Grimm has spent the last four years with Hub Labels.

The company has also hired Robert Rice and Ronald Nichols for part-time production positions.

Antietam Neurology Center

Dr. Jamal Ali, of Hagerstown, has joined Antietam Neurology Center.

He joins Dr. Mehrullah Khan, who is board certified in the specialty of neurology.

Antietam Neurology Center has an office at Robinwood Medical Center in Hagerstown, and in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and McConnellsburg in Pennsylvania.

Brook Lane Health Services

Brook Lane Health Services has achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

The commission's on-site survey of Brook Lane was conducted in April.

Brook Lane celebrated the accreditation with a grilled steak luncheon for staff members in late May.

Penn State

MONT ALTO, Pa. - The physics faculties at Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State York were awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to purchase computers and physics equipment for use in the undergraduate teaching laboratories of both campuses.

Foundation funding accounts for about 20 percent of federal support to academic institutions for basic research in science and engineering.

Waynesboro Hospital

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro Hospital has been accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks following an on-site inspection.

The accreditation establishes that the level of medical, technical and administrative performance at the hospital meets or exceeds the association's standards.

The hospital joins more than 2,000 similar facilities in the U.S. and abroad that have earned American Association of Blood Banks accreditation.

Franklin County Pediatric Associates

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dr. Saw Htun recently joined Franklin County Pediatric Associates at 176 S. Coldbrook Ave. in Chambersburg.

Before coming to the area, Htun was chief pediatric resident at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

His professional memberships include the American Academy of Pediatrics and the British Medical Association. He is board certified in pediatrics.

Shepherd College

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Peter Vila, of Cambridge, Mass., has been appointed assistant professor of environmental studies at Shepherd College.

Vila recently served as teaching fellow in biological oceanography and marine biology at Harvard University and as post-doctoral scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
