Colt Zone Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Scott Keasey and Chris Henson homered to lead Hagerstown Colt League to a 5-2 victory over Greensboro in the Colt League Zone Tournament on Wednesday.

Les Martin had a pair of hits and P.J. Hiser threw a complete-game four-hitter for Hagerstown.

Hagerstown plays again Friday at 4 p.m.

Thomas Evans Tournament

National 9, Maugansville 8: Gary Wolfe homered to lead National over Maugansville in an eight-inning game. Zach Light had two home runs and Clayton Rowland and R.J. Foltz had two hits apiece for Maugansville.

National 12, Clear Spring 10: Patrick Hutzler had three hits to lead National over Clear Spring. Ryan Rau, Brian Gossard and Danny Rowland added two hits each for the winners, while Justin Marshal homered. Tommy Stotler had three hits for Clear Spring. Kris Reeves had two hits, including a homer, and Brandon Forrest and Rodney Swope added two hits apiece.


Halfway 13, Frederick American 3: Matt Petro had two hits to lead Halfway. Devon Vinci also homered for the winners.

River City Classic

Federal 21, American 8: Harrison Hammond had two hits, including a home run, as Federal defeated American in the championship game. Kevin Brashears had three hits, while Jordan Hanst, Freddie Kreiger, Cory Garber and Brandon Brown had two hits each for Federal.

Brandenburg Tournament

Brunswick 8, Halfway 6: John King was the winning pitcher as Brunswick defeated Halfway. Scott Smith had two hits to lead Brunswick.

American 11, Conococheague 10: Jeff Porter was the winning pitcher for American. David Burk led Conococheague with three hits.


Pinesburg League

Pick's Place II 16, Reps 7: Keith Anderson and Kenny Keyes had three hits apiece and Mike McCauley homered for Pick's Place II.

West End 10, Ernst Market 6: Denny Bryan and Lyle Shifflett had three hits each as West End defeated Ernst Market. Jeff Ruppenthal and Mike Boone added two hits apiece for the winners. Skip Crowl and Tony Poffenberger had two hits each for Ernst.


Goretti wins summer tourney

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Tournament MVP Brad Runkles scored 22 points to lead St. Maria Goretti to the Montgomery County Summer League title with an 82-81 victory over Einstein Wednesday night.

Anthony Sowers had 16 points in the win, and Derrick Herman had 11. Sowers and Lee Green were also named to the all-tournament team for Goretti, which advanced to the final Monday night with a 63-49 victory over Wheaton.

Goretti will face Lake Tahoe, Calif., in an exhibition on Aug. 6, with the JV game at 1 and the varsity game at 2:30.
