Cole Road may be moved to accommodate expansion

July 30, 1998

A 1,600-foot section of Cole Road - from its intersection at Massey Boulevard and the end of the Valley Mall parking lot - may be moved south to accommodate the planned expansion of the mall in Halfway.

A public hearing on relocating the road was held Tuesday night before the Washington County Commissioners.

Kevin H. Evans of Crown American, owners of Valley Mall, said the move is needed to accommodate construction of new movie theaters and a Hecht's department store.

The 50-foot-wide road will have two lanes and an additional two turning lanes, said Evans.

No one spoke in opposition. Citizens have 10 days to file written comments on the proposal.

The County Commissioners will vote on the proposal at a future meeting.
