CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Borough residents are invited to join with the Chambersburg Police Department and community organizations in the 15th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

This year, Laurel Lodge 133 IBPOE will hold a walk through the south side of town beginning shortly after 7 p.m. at the Franklin County Housing Authority Community Center, 440 W. Washington St. The housing authority and Chambersburg Community Improvement Association are joining the lodge and police department as local sponsors, according to the department.

National Night Out is an anti-crime program sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. According to the police department, the aim is to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention programs, strengthen ties between the community and police, and send a message to criminals that the community is fighting back.

This is the sixth year the police department has participated in the event, which will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Police officers will walk through other neighborhoods in the borough as part of the program.
