Josephine A. Dodson

Josephine Alice Dodson, 68, of 17122 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 30, 1930, in Augusta County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lizzie McDaniel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Jack Dodson.

She owned and operated Dodson Exterminating.

She was a member of Brethren in Christ Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheila Dodson of Hagerstown; a son, Lee Dodson of Hagerstown; and two sisters, Lena Fitzgerald and Virginia Lawson, both of Staunton, Va.

Services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary J. King

BIGLERVILLE, Pa. - Mary J. King, 43, of 1471 Quaker Valley Road, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Gettysburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born March 26, 1955, in Pompano Beach, Fla., she was the daughter of Coy and Mary A. King Sr. of Biglerville.

She was a 1972 graduate of Biglerville High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a Baptist.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two daughters, Pamela M. King and Tamara N. King, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; a son, Maurice S. King of Chambersburg; two sisters, Veronica King and Donna King, both of Biglerville; four brothers, Virgil King of Gettysburg, Christopher King of Biglerville, and Roderick King and Coy King Jr., both of Harrisburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; and her fiance, Henry Brown of York, Pa.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. W. Larry Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rosalie R. Brookens

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Rosalie R. Brookens, 93, of 235 Ritchey Road, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1905, in Scotland, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Elsie E. Miller Geyer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Solomon R. Brookens, in 1994.

She was a homemaker. She and her husband operated a poultry business and sold eggs for many years.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fayetteville.

For many years she and her husband helped with fund-raisers for Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Co.

She is survived by a daughter, Romaine F. Martin of Fayetteville; two sons, Ray F. Brookens and Dwain W. Brookens, both of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Treva Hay.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. David L. Hefner will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

There will be no viewing.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville, Pa. 17222.

Thesta A. Cookus

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Thesta Almeda "Flo" Cookus, 83, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at City Hospital. She had been a resident of Canterbury Nursing Home, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Falling Waters, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Koontz and Ellen Elizabeth Dunkle Perrell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reynolds Cookus; and by her first husband, Franklin D. Orndorff.

She was formerly employed at Interwoven Mills, Corning Glass Works, Carol Electronics and C.H. Musselman Co.

She was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a son, Franklin D. Orndorff Jr. of Falling Waters; a stepson, Kenneth E. Cookus of Martinsburg; a sister, Marie Nisewarner of Martinsburg; a brother, Daniel Perrell of Falling Waters; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Daisy Sullivan, Mae Strine and Margie Reed; and five brothers, Adam, Reuben, Woodrow, Ray and Merle Perrell.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Keith G. Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Marlowe, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Toni M. Gonder

SHARPSBURG - Toni Marie Gonder, 5, of 6103 River Road, who died Sunday, July 26, 1998, also was preceded in death by an uncle, Roland Gonder.

Roy R. McCurley

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Roy R. McCurley, 64, of Charles Town, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at his home.

He was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Ocnee, S.C.

He is survived by his wife, Rae Moore McCurley; a daughter, Robin Flanagan of Una, S.C.; a son, Michael McCoy of Una; and two granddaughters.
