LEITERSBURG - Leitersburg Ruritan Club will sponsor the 19th annual peach festival Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 9, from noon until 6 p.m.

The festival will take place on the grounds of the former Leitersburg School House, now Leitersburg Community Park, which is six miles north of Hagerstown in the village of Leitersburg, behind the fire hall.

The festival will offer foods from the area, including homemade peach pies, peach ice cream, peach shortcake, peach tea, roast beef, country ham, pork barbecue and Italian sausage sandwiches, french fries, hot dogs and funnel cakes.

Several local orchardists will sell tree-ripened peaches and other fruits, jellies and jams.

On Saturday, the entertainment will be provided by Ray Owen, featuring bluegrass, country and folk music, and on Sunday the featured performers will be Eastern Tradition, playing a variety of music.

There will be a homemade peach pie contest Saturday at the Ruritan Park. Pies must be submitted by 11 a.m., and results of the contest will be announced at noon with ribbons and cash prizes awarded to the winners. There will be two categories of pies - open-faced and closed. This contest is being sponsored by Leitersburg Grange No. 361. An auction of the winning pies will follow.
