July 28, 1998

Two Washington, D.C., men have been charged with sex offenses and assault in connection with an incident involving a 13-year-old girl who was swimming at Greenbrier State Park Saturday.

Victor Contreras, 19, and Gilberto M. Contreras, 23, each were charged with one count of third- and fourth-degree sex offenses and second-degree assault, according to Washington County District Court records.

The men were being held on $30,000 bond each when they appeared for a bond review Monday afternoon before Judge Ralph France. At that hearing, their bonds were kept the same.

A Spanish-speaking interpreter was present for the proceedings Monday.

According to the report filed by Park Ranger Brenda Rohrback, she was contacted by the victim and her mother at 5:55 p.m. Saturday.

The girl told Rohrback that she was swimming when several men began harassing her, court records said.

In her report, Rohrback said she took statements from several witnesses who saw the two men following the girl around in the water while she was attempting to elude them.
