The Chambers

The Rev. and Mrs. Richard C. Chambers of Greencastle, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, April 25, 1998, at a dinner reception at Mountain Gate restaurant in Waynesboro, Pa. The reception was hosted by their five children and their spouses.

The Chambers were married April 29, 1948 in Cumberland, Md., by the Rev. B. F. Hartman.

Mrs. Chambers is the former Marian Hardman, daughter of Mabel Hardman Reynolds of Florida and the late Marshall Hardman. She is a retired nurse from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

Rev. Chambers is the son of the late L. H. Chambers Sr. and Nellie Shatzer Chambers. He retired from Baltimore Conference of United Methodist Church in 1989 after 40 years of service. He is a veteran of World War II.

Their children are Connie Anderson of LaVale, Md., Cynthia House and Cathy Staggs, both of Greencastle, Mark Chambers of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Paul Chambers of Marion, Va. They have 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Douglases

W. Bruce and Joy W. Douglas of Cumberland, Md., were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary at a family dinner Friday, June 19, 1998, at Airport Inn in Hagerstown.

The event was hosted by their children and their spouses, Richard and Kandyce Douglas, Robert and Harriet Douglas and Elizabeth and Travis Medcalf.

They were married June 19, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland by the Rev. Hixson T. Bowersox.

Mr. Douglas is the son of the late William A. and Grace (Avers) Douglas. He is a veteran of World War II. He spent more than 50 years as a civil engineer and manager in heavy construction and is now employed as facilities planner for Allegany College of Maryland. He is a veteran of World War II.

Mrs. Douglas is the daughter of the late Alvin H. and Elizabeth (Hauger) Wilson.

They have five granddaughters.

The Shearers

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Shearer of Hagerstown celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary at a party at Creekside Inn Sunday, July 12. Family and friends attended the celebration.

The Shearers were married July 4, 1953, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. R. Richard Summer.

Mrs. Shearer is the former Barbara Forcino, daughter of Genevieve Hunstberry and the late Willie Forcino. She is employed at Sears.

Mr. Shearer is the son of the late Arthur and Anna Shearer. He served in the U.S. Air Force and is retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

They have four children, Sharon Nutter of Sharpsburg, Judy Michael, Beth Shearer and Laura Shearer, all of Hagerstown. They have three grandchildren.
