July 20, 1998

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Hagerstown's Isabel Giron often struggles in the first inning.

Sunday's game against the Asheville Tourists was no different. He gave up three runs, and the Suns trailed by a run.

But Giron settled down, and the Suns' bats heated up, scoring 12 unanswered runs on the way to a 13-3 victory over the Tourists.

Giron went seven innings, allowing only those three runs, and held the homestanding Tourists to six hits. He struck out six and walked only one to square his record at 9-9.

He got plenty of offensive support from his mates, led by Chris Hayes' 3-for-4 performance that included his third home run of the year and produced four RBIs.

The win gave the Suns (11-20 in the second half and 55-46 overall) a split of the four-game series against Asheville (16-14, 48-52).

Down 3-2, the Suns rallied for four runs in the fourth for a 6-4 lead. They added three in the sixth, two in the seventh and one each in the eight and ninth.
