WILLIAMSPORT - Every starter in the Mount Airy Gold Star Post 191 batting order hit safely on Sunday afternoon.

That resulted in some high run production as Mount Airy defeated Williamsport Post 202 14-7 in a Western Maryland District American Legion baseball game.

The first six hitters in the Mount Airy batting order (Billy Bradshaw, Zac Couturiaux, David Reaver, Joey Bradshaw, Mike Harp and Mike West) combined to produce 11 of the 14 runs scored, 12 of the 13 runs batted in and nine of the 12 hits.

"We hit the ball well," Mount Airy manager George Richardson said. "That seven-run sixth inning made it a little easier."

Mount Airy started to get the clutch hits right off the bat by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Billy Bradshaw led off with a solo homer and West added a three-run homer during the inning.

Williamsport (11-16 district, 20-19 overall) gradually chipped away to reduce the deficit to 5-3 by the end of the third inning.

But then Mount Airy started to pull away. After getting a run in the fifth, Mount Airy scored seven runs during the top of the sixth to increase its lead to 13-3.

However, Williamsport did not give up as it scored four runs in the bottom half of the sixth to cut the lead to 13-7. But that would be as close as Williamsport would get.

Mount Airy starting pitcher Kevin Damiano fanned seven batters in six innings to get the win. Harp pitched three scoreless innings in relief for Mount Airy.
