W.Va. teens enjoying splendid summer

July 19, 1998|By TERESA DUNHAM

I made a few telephone calls and cruised Martinsburg's teenage hot spots (which there are very few of - the mall, the movie theater and the park pretty much cover it) to find out what teenagers have been doing this summer.

I brought my friend, Jessica Kesecker, along for moral support. (After you've had three people look at you like you're crazy and ask "Is this for real?" you need some moral support.)

--cont from youth--

We both started our teen search Tuesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. We discovered that most teenagers are still in bed at that time, so we went to a fitness center for a little entertainment. After that, we got desperate and checked out the orthodontist's office (hey, there are lots of teenagers there).

After lunch, teenagers were everywhere. Some say they've been working; others say they've been swimming and catching some rays. Read on to find out how Martinsburg area teens have been spending their summer

Martinsburg teenagers have been keeping pretty busy. As for me, I've spent my summer practicing my swing at the batting cages, exploring caves around the Adam Stephen House, miniature golfing with my friends, tutoring a fifth-grader in reading skills, swimming, working as a hostess at Hoss's Steak and Sea House, finishing my AP 11 summer reading assignment and getting my goat ready for Berkeley County Youth Fair.

Teresa will be a junior at Hedgesville High School this fall.
