School board OKs transfers of administrators

New assignments for 10 Washington County school principals and assistant principals were approved Tuesday by the Board of Education.

Also, the board named Carl W. Stark to a new principalship created at Fairview Outdoor Center.

"Most of these movements have been caused by what we call the 'domino effect,'" said Schools Superintendent Herman G. Bartlett Jr.

It started with last week's promotion of Boyd J. Michael III, principal at Hancock Middle-Senior High, to director of secondary education at the school board.

The new assignments are:

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> Smithsburg High Principal Michael Shockey will become principal at South High.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> Springfield Middle Assistant Principal Robert Brown will become principal at Western Heights Middle.

A few more appointments are expected to be made by the end of July so the administrators can be ready for the new school year, Bartlett said.
