July 16, 1998

CLEAR SPRING - Traffic on eastbound Interstate 70 was being detoured onto U.S. 40 this morning after a tractor trailer overturned, blocking the highway two miles east of Clear Spring, according to emergency officials.

The accident, which involved a van, occurred around 6:41 a.m., according to Washington County Fire and Rescue Communications.

Emergency officials did not have details of the accident, but said an injured person in the van was taken to Washington County Hospital.

The tractor trailer had several containers of nitrous oxide, but none were leaking and there was no hazard, according to rescue communications.

Nitrous oxide is a colorless gas used as an anesthetic and in aerosols, according to Webster's New World Dictionary.

Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Department and Washington County Civil Defense Field Operations responded to the accident.
