Funds to boost library technology

July 15, 1998

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - West Virginia Gov. Cecil Underwood is expected today to provide the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library with $154,575 for technological improvements.

The money will be used to upgrade the computer equipment to allow about 14 more libraries to connect to the system at the Martinsburg library, said Director Peggy Batten. The computer improvements will allow the other libraries to increase their computer services and allow them to keep better track of their books, she said.

The computer upgrades also will allow Martinsburg library patrons to examine the card catalogs at other libraries, Batten said.

Batten said it has not been determined which libraries will connect to the Martinsburg library's computer system.
