Several injured in 2-car accident

LEITERSBURG - Several people were injured in a two-car accident Monday on Leitersburg Pike just south of the Hagerstown 10 cinema complex, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Carolyn Keeseman, 37, of Waynesboro, Pa., was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, a sheriff's deputy said.

Keeseman was driving a 1998 Jeep north on Leitersburg Pike at about 7 p.m. when it collided into the rear of a Ford Escort driven by a juvenile, that was waiting to turn left into a driveway, a sheriff's deputy said.


Both drivers and several children who were passengers in the Ford Escort were taken to Washington County Hospital, where they were treated and released, the deputy said.

Both vehicles were severely damaged, the deputy said.

Man faces assault charge

BOONSBORO - A Boonsboro man was taken into custody Sunday following a fight with his stepfather, according to a report by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Robby Wayne Huntzberry, 19, of 7726 Sharpsburg Pike, was charged with one count of second-degree assault and one count of malicious destruction of property under $300, the report said.

He was released Monday on personal recognizance.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a call for a domestic dispute at about 6:04 p.m. at the Sharpsburg Pike address, the report said.

Deputies found out that a fight developed between two men about a visit with a friend and a party earlier that day, the report said.

Joseph Lloyd Waters, 36, of 7726 Sharpsburg Pike, was assaulted during the confrontation, the report said.

Some drywall and a lamp in the living room of the home also were damaged, the report said.

Teen charged in blowgun incident

CLEAR SPRING - A 16-year-old male was charged Monday in connection with an incident July 7 in which a Clear Spring man was injured after being shot in the stomach with a blowgun dart, according to a report by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The male was charged as a juvenile with one count of second-degree assault and one count of reckless endangerment, the report said.

He was released to the custody of his mother, the report said.

At about 9 p.m. July 7, Christopher Lynn Reed, 21, of 16 Cumberland St., was at the Clear Spring Amoco gas station when a vehicle pulled into the parking lot, the report said.

The accused juvenile, who was inside the vehicle, used the blowgun to shoot a dart in the direction of Reed, striking him in the stomach, the report said.

Reed refused medical treatment, the report said.

An investigation led to the identity of the shooter, who later admitted his involvement, the report said.

Man charged with assault

FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick City Police apprehended a man Monday morning after receiving a call from a security officer at Frederick Memorial Hospital reporting a man with a knife chasing another man, a police report said.

Jose L. Cruz, 40, of no fixed address, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and wearing a deadly weapon with intent to injure, police said.

He was being held Monday night at Frederick County Adult Detention Center on $15,000 bond.

Police saw a man chasing another in the 600 block of Trail Avenue at about 12:51 a.m., the report said.

One man had a shirt covering one of his hands as he chased the other man, the report said.

After stopping the chase, police found a knife cupped in the hand covered by the shirt, the report said.

The man being chased told police the other man had threatened to kill him and then brandished the knife, the report said.

The victim began to run and the man began chasing after him, the report said.

Three charged in Frederick fight

FREDERICK, Md. - Two teens and an adult male were taken into custody Sunday after two large groups of people were seen fighting near the 8000 block of Cattail Court in Waterside, a Frederick County Sheriff's Department report said.

A 16-year-old male was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment of injured ribs and difficulty breathing, police said.

Paul H. Deibler, 20, of 5210 Muirfield Drive, Ijamsville, Md., was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, the report said.

Two 15-year-old Brunswick, Md., males also were charged in connection with the incident and released to the custody of their parents, the report said.

Both were charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, and one also was charged with possession of a deadly weapon, the report said.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the address at about 6:30 p.m. after someone reported a large group of juveniles fighting, the report said.

An investigation revealed that two groups of male teens, one from Walkersville, Md., and the other from Brunswick, met at Waterside and began fighting, the report said.

Though several of the juveniles fled the scene when deputies arrived, three were taken into custody, the report said.
