A public forum on school violence prevention will be at 2 p.m. today at Reynolds Hall on the Shepherd College campus in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

U.S. Rep. Bob Wise, D-W.Va., will be present, as well as local school officials.




The Free Our Citizens of Unhealthy Substances Coalition will host its first Community Barbecue and Family Festival from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 8, at Jefferson Memorial Park in Charles Town, W.Va.

Admission to the barbecue is free, although some activities will have fees. Proceeds will help fund FOCUS' ongoing work in Jefferson County.

Three-on-three basketball, tennis and other sports will be available for kids ages 12 to 18. Pony rides and other carnival-type attractions will also be offered.

A ceremony will be held to honor FOCUS supporters.

Franklin County, Pa., residents will have the opportunity to provide their opinions on how the Department of Public Welfare should operate the 1998-99 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program at the following hearings:
