The Dickens

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Dicken of Waynesboro, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Monday, June 15, 1998. Their children, Saundra Dicken of Greencastle, Pa., and Edward Dicken of Waynesboro, hosted a dinner in their honor at The Orchard Restaurant in Chambersburg, Pa. They have one grandchild.

The Dickens were married June 15, 1948, at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Dicken is the former Ellen L. Yeager, daughter of the late Garnet and Alice Yeager. In addition to her career as mother and homemaker, she worked at the Stanley Factory in Chambersburg and, later, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Mr. Dicken is the son of the late William Emmit and Tressie Dicken. He is retired from Fairchild Aircraft Division, where he worked in quality control. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.


The Shanks

Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Shank of Hagerstown were honored at a surprise celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, May 1, 1998, at Mountain Gate II Restaurant in Waynesboro, Pa.

The celebration was hosted by the couple's four sons and spouses, Bruce "Sonny" and Becky Shank, Charles R. Shank, and Wayne and Dottie Shank, all of Hagerstown, and Ron and Nancy Shank of Maugansville. The couple's seven grandchildren and their spouses, as well as other family members and friends, also attended.

The Shanks were married June 5, 1948, at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church near Clear Spring by the late Rev. J. Wade Huffman.

Mrs. Shank is the former Fay E. Grove, daughter of the late Ernest and Hannah Grove. Mr. Shank is the son of the late Bruce and Mary Shank. Mr. Shank is retired from Mack Trucks Inc.

The McIntires

Richard E. and Nina Elaine McIntire of Chambersburg, Pa., were recently honored at a surprise 25th wedding anniversary gathering at The Orchard Restaurant in Chambersburg.

The party was hosted by J. Franklin and Gina Carbaugh, brother and sister-in-law of Nina McIntire, and Gary and Edwina McIntire, brother and sister-in-law of Richard McIntire.

The gathering was attended by family and friends from New York, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The McIntires were married May 26, 1973, at First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg by the Rev. Robert E. Reasey.

Mrs. McIntire is the daughter of Eloise Carbaugh of Chambersburg and the late Jacob F. Carbaugh. She is an activities director with Menno Haven.

Mr. McIntire is the son of the late Fred S. and Ethel McIntire. He is a transportation management specialist at Mechanicsburg Naval Depot.

They have two children, Janine McIntire and Jared McIntire, both of Chambersburg.

The Smiths

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith Jr. of Boonsboro were honored Sunday, June 21, 1998, with a surprise celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary, at the home of their daughter, Gina I. Smith.

The celebration was hosted by their three children and spouses, Bret and Karen Smith, Mark and Lori Smith and Gina Smith, all of Boonsboro. The couple's four grandchildren joined the celebration. The event was attended by relatives and close friends.

The Smiths were married June 21, 1958, at Emmanuel E.U.B. Church in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Smith is the former Diane Huffer, daughter of the late Wilber and Gladys Huffer. Before her marriage, she worked at Strole-Wright Insurance Agency.

Mr. Smith is the son of the late Paul Smith Sr. and Catherine Smith. He is a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 7th Infantry Division. He worked at Cavetown Planing Mill, Huffer Builders and Takara before retirement.

The Bergers

Roy Sheldon and Linda Lee Berger recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary at Mountain Gate Restaurant in Waynesboro, Pa. Family and friends attended the celebration.

They have two children, Darrell Sheldon Berger and Sharon Lenore Berger, and two grandchildren, Bryce Timothy Berger and the late Jonathan Michael Berger.

In lieu of flowers, the Bergers were presented with a stuffed Winnie the Pooh to be given to the hospital of their choice in memory of Jonathan Michael Berger, who died unexpectedly in January.

The party was given by Mrs. Berger's stepmother, Dora Johnson. The Bergers' daughter-in-law, Paula Wynelle Phillips Berger, also attended.

The Bergers were married June 9, 1963.

The Hoses

Mr. and Mrs. Terry Lee Hose Sr. of Hagerstown were honored Sunday, June 7, 1998, with a surprise luncheon/dance at the Elks Club in honor of their 25th anniversary.

Hosts for the party were Charles and Anna Jenkins, John and Cheryl Kataline, Bobby and Charlene Gearhart and the couple's children, Charissa, Charlena and Terry Hose Jr. The event was attended by approximately 90 friends and relatives. The former Jenkins sisters played music for their enjoyment and dancing.

The Hoses were married June 16, 1973, at Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Laverne Rohrbaugh.

Mrs. Hose is the former Carol Lee Jenkins, daughter of Charles and Anna Jenkins. She is a second-grade teacher at Salem Avenue Elementary School.

Mr. Hose is the son of Sylvester and Hilda Hose. He is a supervisor at Garden State Tanning.
