HANCOCK - A Hancock man has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage baby sitter in late June, Hancock Police said Wednesday.

Brian Ruppenthal, 25, of 24 Brent St., was taken into custody Monday by Officer Shawn Tasker, who charged him with second-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sex offenses, second-degree assault, and contributing to the condition of a minor.

Ruppenthal was released after posting $25,000 bond.

The 14-year-old victim told police the incident occurred at 12:30 a.m. on June 27 while she was baby-sitting in the Hancock area.

She told police she was sleeping on a couch when her clothing was removed and she was forced to have sexual intercourse despite repeated requests that the contact stop.

Feeling intimidated after the encounter, the victim waited 12 hours before reporting it, police said.

She then sought medical attention at Washington County Hospital. She was treated and later released, police said.

Ruppenthal was charged after a week-long investigation, police said.

Ruppenthal told police he had been drinking but denied that intercourse occurred, police said.
