Errors cost Suns

July 05, 1998

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Two infield errors led to the game-winning run Saturday night, as the Piedmont Boll Weevils sent the Hagerstown Suns to their sixth straight defeat, 6-3.

After Greg Morrison's two-run homer in the top of the seventh put the Suns (4-13) up 3-0, Hagerstown self-destructed. John Sneed, who held the Boll Weevils to two hits in six innings, gave up a single to Bob Van Iten and a double to Andy Dominique to start the seventh, and was pulled.

Johnny Estrada greeted Matt Weimer with an RBI single, and Carlos Guzman also singled. After a strikeout, Jeff Terrell singled to tie the game. After another strikeout, Jason Johnson's routine grounder was missed by Cesar Izturis, allowing Guzman to score the winning run. Alex Fajardo followed with a smash to Hagerstown third baseman Jesse Zepeda, who mishandled the ball for another error that scored Terrell and made the score 5-3. Piedmont added another unearned run in the eighth off reliever Anthony Salley.
