CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police charged a Chambersburg man with two counts of kidnapping and a dozen other offenses after a carjacking Saturday night in St. Thomas Township, Pa.

The police report said two unidentified women were the victims in the Saturday night incident at the Travel Inn, 4840 Lincoln Way West. Charged in the incident was Robert Randal Bratcher, 38, of 40 S. Main St., Chambersburg.

Police said Benjamin Thomas Jr., 52, no address available, was assaulted with a brick Friday night at the motel. The report said the suspect in the assault got away.

At about 11:10 p.m. Saturday, police said the suspect returned to the motel. When police tried to take him into custody, the man took a car with two women inside and attempted to elude police, according to the report.

The report said the man wrecked the car in a yard at 4778 Lincoln Way West and was arrested.

The report did not indicate whether anyone was injured.

A Travel Inn employee said neither Bratcher nor Thomas was registered at the motel on the nights in question and referred other questions to the police. Chambersburg Hospital had no record of Thomas being treated there.

Bratcher was charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, and two counts each of kidnapping and recklessly endangering another person, according to police.

He was also charged with aggravated assault, theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, criminal trespass, driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment.

Arraigned before District Justice Larry Meminger, Bratcher was jailed in Franklin County Prison on $150,000 bond.
