Monday roundup: Yankees blank Blue Sox in Blue Ridge play

SMITHSBURG - Winning pitcher Chad Kolich tossed a three-hitter Monday to lead the Smithsburg Yankees to a 9-0 Blue Ridge Adult League victory over the Martinsburg Blue Sox.

Regan Smith led the Yankees with four hits including a home run, while Jason Draper added three hits. Bobby Miller, Elmer Sewell and Erick Poole each added two hits, including a home run. Eric Jones also had two hits.

Bruce Hess had two hits to lead Martinsburg.

South Mountain Little League

Nationwide 9, Optimists 2: Jay Love pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead Nationwide to the league championship. Chris Thomas and Corey Van Cleave had two hits each.

Lions 10, Pete's 6: Wil Strahl had three hits and Mark Ferro added two to lead Lions. Alex Malphrus had two hits for Pete's.


Pete's Barber Shop 12, Reese's 4: Winning pitcher Alex Malphrus threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts while going 4-for-4 to lead Pete's Barbershop. Mike Quail added three hits while Brandon Rohrer, Nick Zaccaria and Chris Perkins finished with two hits each.

American Little League

Elks 6, Olympia Trophy 2: Winning pitcher Wayne Wetzel struck out 10 batters as the Elks won the first game of the league championship series. Charlie Kline had two hits for Olympia Trophy. The second game of the playoffs will be played today at 6 p.m.

Hagerstown Pony League

UAW 15, Firefighters 6: Jamie Grossnickle had there hits and Reinner Pearrell and Cole Bellon added two hits each to lead UAW. Adam McAllister led Firefighters with two hits.

Halfway Little League

Valley Storage Bin 8, Gehr 7: Jesse Boggs had two hits as Valley Storage Bin defeated Gehr to take a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-three league championship series. Bingie Bingaman led Gehr with three hits, including a home run, and Nick Adenhart with two hits, including a homer.

Washington County Girls Softball

Winters 10, Boonsboro Post 10 5: Alison Higgs had two hits to lead Winters. Tia Waltemire was the winning pitcher and Emily Middlekauff scored three runs. Ashley Gray was the losing pitcher.


Pinesburg Softball League

Pick's Place No. 1 28, Pick's Place No. 2 7: Steve McKimmy, Lew Thomas, Rocky Wills, Mick Byers, Kenny Kirby and Glen Himes each had five hits as Pick's Place No. 1 defeated Pick's Place No. 2.

Craig's Paving 18, California Microwave 8: Eddie Domenico, Jeff Schlotterbeck and Lew Blenard had three hits each for Craig's Paving. Lynn Reedy, John Domenico and Ben Bowers added two hits apiece.

Hagerstown Church Softball

Bethel of Chewsville 6, Grace 5: Jere McAllister, Hoot Johnson and Bill Kershner had three hits each for Bethel.

Bethel AOG 20, Christ Fellowship 12: Damon Miller hit three home runs and Jerry Wagner added four hits to lead Bethel Assembly of God.

St. Mark's Lutheran 17, Church of Nazarene 17: Paul Needy went 4-for-5 and Howard Metger added three hits and drove in the game-winning RBI to lead St. Mark's. Brian Hess and Pat Myers added three hits each and Darryl Anderson added two home runs.

Maranatha/Virginia Avenue Church of God 25, New Life 8: John Kennedy had five hits and Frank Curry blasted three home runs to lead Maranatha/Virginia Avenue. Zore Cline and Greg Henesy each also homered.

Halfway Morning Softball League

Bud Light 29, MCI 26: Joel Duffy had five hits, including home run, to lead Bud Light over MCI. Dave Foltz added five hits while Darren Stotlemyer and Doc Brewer had four hits each. Joe Mong, Steve Baker and Chris Ricker finished with three hits apiece. Ricker homered. MCI's Rick Grove led with five hits, including a home run.

Hub City Softball League

Dual Highway Motors 13, Hub City Liquors 12: Winning pitcher Rick Beam was 4-for-5 to lead Dual Highway Motors past Hub City Liquors. Mark Obitts and Mike Zimmerman added three hits each.
