Volunteers needed for trail work

BOILING SPRINGS, Pa. - The Appalachian Trail Conference is looking for volunteers ages 18 and older for a trail crew in the Mid-Atlantic region.

ATC is a nonprofit organization that coordinates the management and maintenance of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, supports the Mid-Atlantic Trail crew based in Carlisle, Pa. The Mid-Atlantic crew works on major trail construction and rehabilitation projects along the Appalachian Trail in West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, New Jersey and New York.

Crew work is varied and physically challenging, involving new trail construction, bridge building and rehabilitation of eroded trail. Prior experience is not required.

Crews stay at tent sites during the work week, but weekends are spent in base camp facilities. The crew is needed from Thursday, Sept. 3, to Monday, Oct. 26, with a Thursday-through-Monday work week.
