June 28, 1998

A Roxbury Correctional Institution inmate was stabbed in a shower in the segregation wing Saturday night, a prison spokeswoman said.

Jerry Thurman was rushed to Washington County Hospital for treatment, said Denise Gelsinger, assistant public information officer. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but he was still being treated at the hospital Saturday night, she said. His condition wasn't available.

The inmate was stabbed numerous times about 8:30 p.m., she said.

Maryland State Police were investigating.

Maintenance workers were called in to attempt to find the weapon, Gelsinger said.
