Andrews hurt, Suns get swept

June 26, 1998

SALISBURY, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds added injury to insult Thursday with a 3-0 victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

The Shorebirds used three solo home runs - two by Roberto Rivera - to score a four-game sweep and send the Suns on a four-game losing streak.

The Suns may have suffered a bigger blow after Rivera's first home run in the fourth inning. Starter Clayton Andrews (6-4) left the game after Daren Hooper was retired on a grounder to short.

Hooper broke his bat on the play. The barrel flew out to the mound and struck Andrews in his left arm. He left the game and went to the hospital for X-rays.

Eddie Garabito greeted Tim Huff with a leadoff homer in the fifth and Rivera slammed his second shot in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Rich Bauer (6-7) and Tod Lee combined on a three-hitter to blank the Suns.
