Four local players make W. Va. All-State

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Four players from the Eastern Panhandle have been named to the West Virginia All-State Baseball Team.

Josh Cenate and Dylan Hetzel of Jefferson and J.R. Fitzwater of Hedgesville were all named to the Class AAA team, while Jason Rhea of Berkeley Springs made the Class AA team.

Cenate, making the team as a utility player, pitched two no-hitters and finished the season with a 1.96 ERA. The 6-foot-2 lefty struck out 143 batters in 82 innings. Cenate batted .438 with six home runs and 42 RBIs for the Class AAA state champions.

Fitzwater fills another utility slot. Hedgesville's ace was 9-2 with a 1.21 ERA and 120 strikeouts. He hit .344 with 10 doubles, five homers, 27 RBI and 23 runs scored.


Hetzel, a center fielder, led the Cougars with a .500 batting average, 10 doubles four home runs, 33 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

Rhea made the Class AA team as a utility player. He batted .494 with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs for the Indians.

James Franklin (pitcher) of Martinsburg and Desomnd Williams (outfielder) of Jefferson made the Class AAA second team.

Jimmy Rhodes (pitcher), Justin Osbourn (catcher), Fernandez Wilkes (infielder)and Scott Wells (infielder) of Jefferson and Keith Keller (outfielder) of Musselman received special honorable mention.

David Golden (catcher) of Musselman and B.J. Mercer (outfielder) of Jefferson received honorable mention.
