Morphine, alcohol blamed in Mount death

June 20, 1998

FREDERICK, Md. - A Mount St. Mary's College student found dead in his off-campus apartment on April 4 died from an accidental overdose of alcohol and morphine, Frederick County sheriff's deputies said Friday.

Officers said Adams County, Pa., Coroner Patricia Leinbach reached her conclusions after conducting toxicology tests on the body of 21-year-old Michael Jacques L'Heureux.

L'Heureux, whose home was in Camp Springs, was found dead in the morning by a roommate at their apartment at 16932 Annandale Road in Emmitsburg. Police said friends told them at the time that L'Heureux had drank 20 beers in 12 hours and then fallen asleep on the floor.

Officers said they didn't find any morphine in L'Heureux's apartment, but had taken statements from friends who said L'Heureux used morphine the night before his death.
