The Gossards

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Little Gossard of Hagerstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Tuesday, May 12, 1998.

The Gossards were married May 12, 1938, at Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Paul Holdcraft.

Mrs. Gossard is the former Ruth Elizabeth Starliper of Mercersburg, Pa., and the daughter of the late Edward and Lottie (Hornbaker) Starliper.

Mr. Gossard is the son of the late David and Lydia (Curfman) Gossard. He is a veteran of World War II. He retired from Safeway Grocery Stores after 33 years of service.

The couple's daughters and their spouses, Judy and Vaughn Ballard of Arvada, Colo., and Debbie and Troy Cunningham of Hagerstown gave them a money gift to travel. Their children are Judy Ballard, Debbie Cunningham, the late Sharon Gossard and the late Charles "Michael" Gossard. They have eight grandchildren, one deceased grandchild; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.


The Criders

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Crider Sr. of Hagerstown were honored Sunday, April 19, 1998, at a luncheon reception at Potomac Fish and Game Club celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

Hosts for the party were the couple's children and their spouses, Barbara and Jerry Harrell of Williamsport and Barbara and Eddie Crider Jr. of Hagerstown. The event was attended by approximately 85 friends and relatives.

Edwin Lee Crider and H. Valarie Coss were married April 15, 1938, by the Rev. J. Edward Harms at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Crider is the daughter of the late Luther George and Marguerite Vera Coss.

Mr. Crider is the son of the late Harry and Virgie Crider. He operated Broadway Garage for 29 years and retired from Hess Auto Supply Co.

The Criders have two children, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with a 12th on the way.

The Egloffs

Herman and Beatrice Egloff of Boonsboro were honored Sunday, May 3, 1998, at a surprise dinner celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary at the 94 Inn near Cross Keys, Pa.

The dinner was hosted by their daughters and their spouses, Susan and Dean Reeder and Charlene and Jerry "Pete" Kaetzel, of Boonsboro. The event was attended by family members and close friends.

The Egloffs were married May 1, 1948, at Olney Baptist Church in Philadelphia by the Rev. Franz Oreth.

Mrs. Egloff is the former Beatrice Sprouls, daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice Sprouls. Mr. Egloff is the son of the late George and Barbara Egloff, all of Philadelphia.

Mr. Egloff is retired after 47 years with the Lawrence McFadden Co. of Philadelphia as a sales representative.

They have five grandsons.

The Bowmans

Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Bowman of Hagerstown were entertained recently at a surprise party honoring their 50th wedding anniversary at the Hagerstown home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Klaus von Mahr.

The Bowmans were married May 22, 1948, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clear Spring. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Charles LeFew.

Mrs. Bowman is the former Nellie M. Trumpower, daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Louise Daugherty Trumpower. She was employed as a secretary with Pangborn Corp.

Mr. Bowman is the son of the late Herbert and Mary Mellinger Bowman. He is a veteran of World War II and retired after 43 years employment with First National Bank of Maryland.

They have two grandchildren.

The Garrotts

John Hilleary Garrott Sr. and Ann Price Garrott of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, May 22, 1998, with a dinner-dance at Fountain Head Country Club. Present at the large gathering were some of the wedding party, including Jean Cushwa, matron of honor; Betty Jean Frantz Boyer, maid of honor; and Martin H. McGuffin, usher.

The Garrotts were married May 22, 1948, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waynesboro, Pa.

Mr. Garrott is the son of the late William Hilleary and Mary Ramacciotti Garrott of Hagerstown. Mrs. Garrott is the daughter of the late A. Emmert and Frances Grove Price of Waynesboro.

The Garrotts' eight children, Lois Snyder, Barbara Degaetano, Mary Taylor, Louisa Chambers, John H. Garrott Jr., Susan Brown and Ellen Castellano and their spouses and Fr. William Garrott OP all attended, including nine of their grandchildren. The remaining 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild did not attend.

Before retirement, Mr. Garrott operated Four States Livestock Sales Inc. and was active in construction, real estate, banking and many civic projects. He is still involved in the downtown improvement effort.

The Knables

Glenn and Anna Knable of Hancock were honored Saturday, April 11, 1998, with a surprise celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary at Orchard Ridge First Church of God Pavilion.

The party was hosted by their sons and daughter and their spouses, James and Tracy Knable of Hagerstown, Jeanie and Dennis Truax of Mississippi, Dave and Pam Knable of Clear Spring and Dale and Lucia Knable of Hancock. The event was attended by close friends and relatives.

The Knables were married April 11, 1948, in Hancock.

Mrs. Knable is the former Anna Elizabeth Shoemaker, daughter of the late Cleveland and Mary Shoemaker.

Glenn Edwin Knable is the son of the late Louis Conn and Olive Virginia Knable. He was a supervisor in the mechanics division of Maryland State Correctional Institution. He retired in 1990 after 30 years of service.

They have five grandsons and five granddaughters.
