Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call weekdays at 301-791-6236.

Readers are welcome to leave their recorded message on any topic they choose, but some calls are screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Congratulations again to Tim Rowland for his very informative article Sunday, June 14, on the Opinion/Editorial page E3. Taxpayers read the fourth column very carefully which states the Ag Center Museum will cost almost $3 million of your money with no appreciable income expected from non-existent tenants. Be sure to vote!"

"This is for Jim Wade, our County Commissioner. Why don't you take a few minutes and ask the employees of the county, especially the supervisors first, second and third line, just how great Rodney Shoop is? You will find out that Ron Bowers is telling the truth. Open your eyes, Mr. Wade."

"I have deep appreciation for the linemen at City Light. They have been working non-stop to get everyone back on power and to repair all damages after the storm. Everyone who lives in the city and especially in the North End with all their huge trees, should tip their hats to these men who work in all kinds of weather. Keep up the good work, City Light."

"This is to the person who I think found my sunglasses at Robinwood Medical Center. If you could call 301-797-1122 and ask for Larry or Debbie I'd really appreciate it."

"Hi Mail Call. I'm calling to say what a great job the Hagerstown Fire Department did during Tuesday's storm. I live next door to the fire department and those poor guys weren't resting five minutes before they had to go back out again and I think they did a terrific job trying to keep everything going the way they did. The Police Department was terrific also. They were out on the streets the entire time and we ought to be proud of both departments."

"Did anyone in the Sharpsburg area lose a cordless phone on June 4? Call into Mail Call and leave your phone number if you did and we will get in touch with you."

"Normally I seldom agree with Commissioner Ron Bowers, however, his comments about Rodney Shoop and the Personnel Director Alan Davis I agree with 100 percent. I agree also that they must go."

"I'd like to wish Mark and Lisa a happy 1st anniversary and remember Lisa, it's not nice to hang up on your husband's boss."

"In reference to the Class of '75 from South Hagerstown High School. They are looking for addresses of their classmates and if you have moved in the last three years since our last reunion and you have a new address we are trying to get together our 25th class reunion for the year 2000. We are looking for anyone with a new address. You can send them to: The Class of '75, 1614 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, Md. 21740. Thank you."

"Who cares about wearing bike helmets? The users are at their own risk if they choose not to wear them."

"Hi Mail Call. I'd like to make a comment on a phone call that I got this morning at 3:08. It was about winning a trip to the Bahamas and the phone number that came up on my Caller ID was from Fort Ritchie. Now, you know I have people in my family that are sick and I call this number back and the guy practically called me a liar and said that it wasn't them calling but I know where it came from and if it continues I will get a hold of the phone company. Please print this for their benefit."

"I would like to say that I think the Community Free Clinic should be saved and not the roundhouse."

"Hey Mail Call, I read an ad in the paper for the deputy patrol for the Sheriff's Department and I'd like to give you my qualifications. I play golf!"

"I'm calling in regards to the extremely closed minded person who said how can you even call them human beings, Jehovah's Witnesses, who don't believe in the American flag. Don't you understand that the American flag stands for freedom of religion? Read the Constitution that you think that flag stands for."

"Good evening Mail Call. Reading this evening's paper where the Commissioners give Shoop a vote of confidence, I have one quick question. Is Shoop a Republican?"

"My gosh, my hat's off to County Commissioner Ron Bowers. He comes out with more interesting information for us taxpayers than all the other Commissioners combined and Wade wants to criticize him. Well, I guess when Wade runs around with Shoop all the time, I've seen them together, there's something the matter. Go after them Bowers. If Wade's got guts, I don't know where they are."
