Shepherd to host dulcimer festival

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Upper Potomac Dulcimer Fest will host its second annual June Fest workshops Monday through Saturday, June 15-20, at Shepherd College.

In addition to the workshops for dulcimer players, there are activities open to other musicians and the public.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> Every afternoon, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the festival offers a series of mini-classes for hammered dulcimer as well as other instruments. The mini-classes are $10 each or $35 for the week.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> On Wednesday night, the festival will present a concert at Shepherd College's Reynolds Hall at 8 p.m. featuring local hammered dulcimer builder and player Nick Blanton with Belgian-born guitarist Paul Oorts. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for children younger than 12. An "All Fest" evening ticket is $20.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> On Thursday, there will be a community dance at Shepherdstown Men's Club with the Festival Open Band at 9 p.m.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> On Friday, the festival presents its final concert at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church at 8 p.m. in conjunction with Shepherdstown Music and Dance's International Concert Series. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for Shepherdstown Music and Dance members and seniors, and $6 for children younger than 12.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> Saturday afternoon there will be an informal picnic and jam session at Morgans Grove Park.
