Storyteller on tap this week at parks

June 14, 1998

The Washington County Arts Council will present stories told by local storyteller Crystal Brown at Widmeyer Park in Hancock on Tuesday and at Doub's Woods Park on Thursday.

The performances are the first in a series of storytelling events at both parks this summer. The free programs begin at 11 a.m.

Brown will tell string-figure stories, folk tales and original stories while the children dress in costumes and act out the stories with her. She has worked within the Maryland educational system for many years, both as a participant in educational videos for Washington County Board of Education and as a storyteller and poet with Maryland State Arts Council's Artist-in Education program. Her performances involve the telling classic stories, as well as presenting her own works.

Doub's Woods Park is at 1307 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

To reach Widmeyer Park in Hancock take Interstate 70 to the Hancock/Berkeley Springs U.S. 522 exit. Turn right from the exit ramp and take the first road to the right, Park Road, which will lead to Widmeyer Park.
