WILLIAMSPORT - Boonsboro Post 10 was clicking on all cylinders on Wednesday night.

"Boonsboro deserved to win the game," Williamsport manager Scott Jennings said. "I thought that Josh Cenate did a good job of mixing his pitches.

"They played better defense, they hit better and they got good pitching. When you add all of those things up, the other team usually comes out on top."

Cenate gave up only two earned runs and seven hits, while striking out eight batters, in seven innings to get the victory. Cenate retired nine of the last 12 batters he faced. Cenate also socked a solo home run and scored two runs.

"It was the first time that I was on the mound since last Thursday in the state semifinal for Jefferson," Cenate said. "I was using a fastball, curveball, change-up and split finger. All of my pitches worked pretty well tonight. My teammates hit the ball well tonight and they played good defense. I give them a lot of credit."

B.J. Mercer slugged two home runs among his three hits and three RBIs, while Keith Herbert and Bobby Ord ripped solo homers for Boonsboro (3-4 district, 3-4 overall). Dylan Hetzel added three stolen bases, three runs and two hits, while Justin Osborne had two hits for Boonsboro.

"We jumped out to an early lead. That seemed to give us a cushion," said Boonsboro manager Brian Smith. "Josh Cenate was then in command for the rest of the ballgame. We were aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths. It was a team effort."

Matt Bowman collected three RBIs and two hits, while Andy Brown had two hits for Williamsport (3-5 district, 7-7 overall).

Boonsboro got two runs in the top of the first inning when Hetzel scored on a double steal and Herbert came home on a throwing error.

Boonsboro tacked on two more runs in the third on solo homers by Cenate and Mercer.

Boonsboro added two runs in the top of the fifth to go up 6-0 on a throwing error and Herbert's solo homer.

After Williamsport got two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Boonsboro responded with a run in the sixth when Hetzel tripled to left and scored on a wild pitch.

Mercer and Ord homered in the seventh as the lead expanded to 10-2.

Williamsport got a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run double by Bowman.
