Hot summer concerts

June 05, 1998

From Backstreet Boys to The B-52's, "Bugs Bunny on Broadway" to B.B. King, summer concerts are the place to be.

Some of the hottest shows are heading your way, and you'll have to move quickly to get tickets.

To help chart your musical journey, we contacted Hersheypark Stadium and Star Pavilion in Hershey, Pa.; Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.; Nissan Pavilion at Stone Ridge in Bristow, Va.; Pier Six Concert Pavilion in Baltimore; and Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va.

Only lawn seats are available to see The Spice Girls Sunday, June 21, and Hanson Thursday, July 2, at Nissan Pavilion, and Metallica Wednesday, July 1, at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Lawn seats also are available for Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band's Friday, July 31, concert at Nissan Pavilion, and the Aug. 1 show there has sold out. Buffett's shows Aug. 21 and 22 at Merriweather Post Pavilion are sold out.

Lilith Fair, the sizzling celebration of females in music, rocks Merriweather Post Pavilion Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19. The show rolls into Hersheypark Stadium Monday, Aug. 10.

Other eagerly anticipated shows include Shania Twain at Nissan Pavilion Friday, Aug. 14, and Pearl Jam at Merriweather Post Pavilion Friday, Sept. 18.

New shows continually are being added, so check Web sites and concert lines for updates.

Mark your choices, then prepare to see stars.
