Downtown Clear Spring renovation taking shape

June 03, 1998

CLEAR SPRING - What had been just talk and blueprints and abstract drawings of the upcoming downtown renovation began to take shape for town officials Tuesday night.

With work expected to begin in April 1999, the plans include repaving U.S. 40 through town and a portion of Md. 68, adding or repairing sidewalks and planting trees.

Bill Park of the State Highway Administration had his design team with him Tuesday night as the finishing touches were being firmed up.

"We're on schedule with the final review set for October," Park said.

In the meantime, town officials will study what types of trees to plant and where, the location of parking meters and which sidewalks need to be replaced.

"The work will be done one block at a time, most likely starting at the east end of town," Park said.
