Local Roundup: Greencastle eliminated in PIAA

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - South Williamsport (21-4) defeated Greencastle-Antrim 11-1 in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Softball Tournament.

Katie Buckley and Megan Williams had two hits each for Greencastle as they ended their season at 15-8. This is the furthest Greencastle has ever advanced in the state tournament in school history.


National Minor League

A.E. Sweeney 7, Merchants 6: Bradley Kennedy struck out 10 and had two hits to lead A.E. Sweeney. Christopher Heil had two hits, including a home run, for the winners. Brittany Hyatt had two hits, including a home run, and Ryan Sipos had two hits for Merchants.

Halfway Little League

Lions 10, Hoffman Auto 5: Joey Richards had two hits and Andy May homered to lead Lions. Aaron Smith, Tyler Jones and Tim Bossler had two hits each for Hoffman Auto.


Sharpsburg Little League

Lions 10, Company One 7: Billy Cornell and Mike Canfield had three hits apiece and John Canfield homered to lead Lions. Brad Stottelmeyer had three hits for Company One.

Conococheague Little League

Lions 16, Byer's Market 5: Tyler Cline and Drew Kidd combined to pitch a five-hitter to lead Lions. Ben Jordan and Cline were both 2-for-2.

Valley Little League

Rocky's 18, ICC 5: Cody Walter had two hits, while Shawn Hershiwitz picked up the win for Rocky's.

FOP 13, ICC 3: Adam Hood and Chris Rogers had three hits each and Hunter Wade had two hits to lead FOP. Hood struck out 13 and picked up the win for FOP. Kevin Talbert had a pair of doubles for ICC.

Federal Little League

Alsatia 10, Exchange 7: William Muliere had four hits, including a home run, and six RBIs, Matt Wagner had three hits and David Macht and Dean Staley had two hits each for Alsatia. Daniel Zamora and Trevor Hullinger had two hits apiece for Exchange.

West End Little League

Coca-Cola 4, AFL-CIO 3: Jonathan Breehl homered and tripled and winning pitcher Jared Barnhart and J.C. McElroy had two hits apiece for Coca-Cola.

Hagerstown Pony League

FOP 11, F&M 1: Josh Keyton had three hits, including a home run, to lead FOP. Jason Embly picked up the win with 10 strikeouts and Mike Brooks had three hits for the winners. Brandon Fisher had two hits for F&M.

Troopers 11, F&M 2: Billy Keyes and Steve Heagy combined to pitch a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Troopers. Heagy had three hits and Danny Fowler, Frank McAllister and Gerry Spessard had two hits each, while Heagy, Fowler, McAllister and Weaver all homered for the winners.

Senior Interleague

Redmen 10, Elks 9: John Griffith was 4-for-4, Regis Line had three hits and Jason Smith had a pair of doubles to lead Redmen. Dusty Green had three hits and Dustin Thomas and Dave Rosania had two for Elks.

Mr. Hardware 16, Allen's Photo 1: Jimmy Whiteside had four hits, Matt Meyer had three hits, and winning pitcher Creston Ward had two hits to lead Mr. Hardware. Jamie Widmeyer had two hits for Allen's Photo.

Maugansville Sr. League

Ruritan 16, Pugh's 6: Luke Henry had three hits, including a home run, and Simon Henry, Dustin Showalter, Jeff Cummings and Sid Huguenin had two hits each to lead Ruritan. Bobby Carter had two hits for Pugh's.

Clear Spring Sr. League

Clear Spring 11, FOP 10: Ryan Grove, Josh Fiedler and Ryan Blair had two hits each to lead Clear Spring. Adam Mills had three hits, including a home run and Dan Norris and John Bishop had two hits each for FOP.

Wash. County Girls Softball

Building Blocks 18, Four Star 8: Mandy McKeever, Sara Austin and Amanda Sykes had two hits each, while Sierra Routzahn and Austin homered for Building Blocks.

Hancock Richards Wilbert Rugrats 16, Four-Star Complex 5: Adrienne Kesecker struck out 17 batters for Rugrats. Nina Chiaruttini had three hits, including a three-run homer, and Jenae Trail had two hits for Rugrats.

Jolliff Masonry 31, Middletown Sports 8: Stephanie Garlitz had three hits, including two triples, and Chelsea Garlitz added two hits including a homer to lead Jolliff. Cristina Sanders, Sammy Smiles and Mandy Fraley each added two hits for the winners.

Smithsburg Babe Ruth League

F&M 9, Hagerstown Trust 7: Jeff Smith had two triples and three RBIs to lead F&M. Brent Myers added two hits for the winners, while Zack Clark led Trust with three hits.

Maugansville Senior League

Hagerstown Trust 8, Larry Allen 7: Jessie Bennaka homered, and Emily Ruby had the game-winning hit for Trust. Travis Brown also had two hits for Trust.

West End Minor League

FOP 16, Western Enterprise 9: John Zeigler and Kevin Botts each had three RBIs to lead FOP over Western.

National Little League

Amvets 23, Pangborn 5: Jeremy McAfee and Dave Peacher each had three hits to lead Amvets. One of McAfee's hits was a homer, while Adam Dieterich and Patrick Mertz each added two hits for the winners. Pangborn's Ryan Harman had a home run, while C.J. Hewitt added two hits.
