Exit 7 proposal subject of meeting

June 01, 1998

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The proposed Exit 7 interchange on Interstate 81 will be the subject of an informational meeting hosted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation at 7 p.m. Thursday at Faust Junior High School, 1957 Scotland Ave.

The meeting is expected to last approximately two hours.

PennDOT officials will discuss a modified interchange alternative and give status reports on environmental and engineering studies for the project.

Transportation officials will be meeting with local government officials from Franklin County, Chambersburg and Greene Township prior to the public meeting, according to Greene Township Supervisor Paul Ambrose.

Ambrose said he believes the meeting is to discuss the addition of a bridge across the interstate to the Exit 7 plan. The bridge would link Walker Road and Franklin Farm Lane.

More than $5 million in federal funding for the highway demonstration project was approved more than a decade ago, but opposition from community groups and Greene Township has stalled construction.
