Hearing set on school budget

June 01, 1998

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The proposed 1998-99 budget for the Chambersburg Area School District will be the subject of a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at Chambersburg Area Middle School, 1151 E. McKinley St.

The $51.9 million spending plan received preliminary approval April 22 on a 5-3 vote of the board of school directors. It includes a 3.5 mill increase in real estate taxes to 124 mills.

District Business Manager George Fike said the tax hike would increase the average property owner's taxes about $23 a year to just more than $800 a year.

A final vote on the budget is scheduled for June 10.
