Friday's local roundup - Parker claims W.Va. discus title

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Roshawnda Parker of Martinsburg won the state title in the Class AAA girls discus at the West Virginia State Championships, throwing the disc 121 feet, 9 inches.

Also in girls competition, Jefferson finished second in the 3,200 relay with a time of nine minutes, 51.6 seconds, three seconds behind Parkersburg. Delphia Rogers of Hedgesville was third in the high jump with a mark of 5-2.

On the boys side, Hedgesville was sixth in the 3,200 relay (8:21.54) and picked up two places in the pole vault: a fourth from Arlan Sheets (12-6) and a fifth from Ryan Stocking (12-0).

American Little League

FOP 10, Thompson Concrete 0: Winning pitcher Ben Smith tossed a no-hitter to lead FOP.

West End Little League

AFL-CIO 13, Elks 10: Glen Creary had four hits, including two triples and a homer, to lead AFL-CIO. Jonathan Breeho and Danny Carroll added two hits each for the winners. Michael Petty had three hits and Mark Eschinger added two for Elks.


Moose 11, Stags 8: Aaron Wagner and Adam Thomas each had two hits and a home run to lead Moose. Doug Shatzer and T.J. Fair added two hits each. Orland Dean had two hits for Stags.

Maugansville Little League

Brewer's 10, Burkholders 3: Andrew Merrbaugh and Zeb Jacobs combined on a five-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead Brewer's. Zach Light had two hits for the winners. J.D. Cline and Tony Hardcastle had two hits each for Burkholders.

Halfway Little League

Gibney's 4, Valley Storage Bins 1: Greg Small and Jordan Duvall combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for Gibney's. Small also had two hits. Jesse Boggs had 12 strikeouts for Valley.

Federal Little League

Alsatia 14, Lions 4: Matt Wagner, Michael Creeden and Daniel Plank had three hits each for Alsatia. Freddie Kreiger and William Mulieri added two hits apiece. Randy Stout had two hits for Lions.

Sharpsburg Little League

American Trust 9, Lions 8: Luke Hintze and Ryan Collins had two hits each to lead American Trust. Billy Cornell had two hits, including a homer, for Lions.

Conococheague Little League

Byers' Market 16, Taylor's Trucking 4: Seth Hahn, Corey Itnyre and Greg Brechbill each had two hits for Byers' Market. Luther Davis had two hits for Taylor's.

Clear Spring Little League

Cubs 7, Yankees 1: Jeremy Everitts had three hits and Josh Barnhart pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Cubs defeated the Yankees.

South Mountain Little League

Lions 11, Optimist 6: Kyle Kane, Justin Short, Mark Ferro and Brian Toms each had two hits for Lions. Short fired a complete-game four-hitter. Justin Irving had two hits for Optimist.

Valley Little League

Pangborn 9, ICC 6: Joe Baker and Keith Fowler each had two hits and Josh Daniels homered to lead Pangborn.

Smithsburg Little Sluggers

Scott's Speed Shop 5, Phil & Jerry's 3: Logan Miss had two hits and struck out 13 for Scott's. Theo Nehemias had an inside-the-park homer for the winners. Ryan Ianard struck out 18 for Phil & Jerry's.

West End Minor League

Woodpoint Grill 14, St. Lawrence Cement 4: Killeon Miller had three hits, including a three-run homer, to lead Woodpoint. Brian Rosensteel and Luke Andrews each added three hits. Tim Leather, Joel Rodrigues and Jesse Wyand had two hits apiece.

Clear Spring Minor League

Astros 3, Cubs 2: Aaron Mills struck out 12 and Ryan Shifler had two hits to lead the Astros. Josh Bishop had two hits for the Cubs.

Washington County Girls Softball

FOP 25, Boonsboro Produce 10: Mallory Tsetsilas pitched a two-hitter and Michelle Hutzel had three hits to lead FOP. Alison Wine added two hits.

Capitol Building Supply 4, Rugrats 3: Cassey Muck doubled and winning pitcher Katie Saufley drove in the winning run as Capitol scored all four of its runs in the seventh inning. Adrienne Kesecker had two hits for Rugrats.

Hagerstown Pony League

Goodwill 7, Elks 0: Winning pitcher Josh Carter threw a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead Goodwill. Carter also had three hits and a homer, while Corey Mowen had two hits and a home run.

Maugansville Senior League

Ruritan 22, Shawley's 11: Simon Henry went 4-for-4 and Luke Henry and Frank McAllister each went 3-for-3 to lead Ruritan. Sid Huguenin had three hits, and Jordan Gossard and Dustin Showalter had two hits each. Gerad Haupt had three hits for Shawley's.

South County Senior League

Aladdin Awards 13, Appalachian Builders 4: Adam Miller had three hits and four RBIs to lead Aladdin. Keith Woodhams added two hits, while Dan Woods struck out 18. Josh Lashley hit a pair of home runs for Appalachian.

Halfway Senior League

Carpet Galley 7, Minnich's 0: Walter Drill threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Carpet Gallery. Buddy Starner had three hits and Earl Wilk and Sean Gregg each had two for the winners.

Senior Interleague

Homewood 15, Jeter 14: Zach Hoffman, Floyd Harell, Nathan Jordan and Sam Irvin each had three hits to lead Homewood. Gary Bloyer led Jeter with four hits. Jesse Foster had three hits, while Jimmy Fortese and Matt Kibler added two apiece.
