Local kids out of spelling bee

May 29, 1998

Two Tri-State area students were eliminated in the fourth round of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee on Thursday.

Nathaniel Kopp, a sixth-grader at Greencastle-Antrim (Pa.) Middle School, stumbled on the word verdigrised (coated with a certain type of bluish-green pigment).

Clara Anne Raubertas, a seventh-grader at Charles Town (W.Va.) Junior High, misspelled coeval (a contemporary).

Three other Tri-State area students, including Hagerstown's Justin Warner, were eliminated Wednesday.
