Thursday's roundup: Greencastle advances to state tournament

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Greencastle scored three runs in the fifth inning to seal a 4-3 victory over Eastern York in the PIAA District 3 consolation game on Thursday and advance to the state tournament for the first time in the program's history.

Heather Polifka and Megan Williams to start the Blue Devils rally. Nicole Carty's single brought Polifka home and Katie Beam reached on an error to score Mandy Carr and Carty.

Polifka and Williams each had two hits to lead Greencastle (15-6). Carr struck out five to earn the win, her 14th of the year.


Greencastle will start play in the Pennsylvania State Tournament in Williamsport on Monday.


Waynesboro 6, Funkstown 1

FUNKSTOWN - Travis Hardman struck out 14 and walked two to lead Waynesboro over Funkstown.

Hardman, Tuck Hess and Matt Lowman each had two hits to lead Waynesboro. Ben Leonard added a solo home run in the fourth.

Troy Butts had six strikeouts and one walk in four innings for Funkstown (3-2).


West End Minor League

Callas 10, FOP 5: Alex Bowers had an inside-the-park home run to lead Callas over FOP. Corey Walzl added a two-run homer for the winners. Ricky Burnett led FOP with two RBIs.

Maugansville Little League

New York Life 15, Ruritan 2: T.J. Hose pitched a two-hitter for New York Life. Hose and Jesse McAllister led the winners with four hits each, while Doug Jones added three hits. Joey Strong hit a two-run homer for Ruritan.

Federal Little League

Exchange 19, American Legion 6: Kevin Brashears had four hits as Exchange beat American Legion. Daniel Zamora and Trevor Hollinger added three hits apiece for the winners, while Nick Mellott had two. Danny Ryan had three hits for American Legion.

Washington Co. Girls Softball

Manpower 13, FOP 12: Lindsay Dellinger had three hits, including a home run, and Katie Berger added two hits to lead Manpower. Jullian Watson and had eight strikeouts in a losing effort.

Ernst Market 24, Eagles 10: Jamie Poffenberger had three hits, while Amy Bikle, Stacey Yeakle, Heather Yost and Jordan Poffenberger each added two for Ernst Market.

4-Star Athletic 21, K&M Grocery 13: Beth Ryan and Jamie Miles had three hits apiece to lead 4-Star. Keli Dofflemyer, Jenny Houser, Ashley Houck each had two hits for the winners. Chrissy Barr homered for K&M.

Sharpsburg Little League

SAL 12, Company One 9: Lance Marshall had three hits to lead SAL over Company One. Brad Wetzel was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts. Brad Stotlemyer and Josh Hoy had two hits each for Company One.

Hagerstown Pony League

Eagles 11, Firefighters 5: Matt Johnson had three hits to lead Eagles. Zack Stowell and Brandon Mark added two hits each for the winners. Gary Naile had two hits, including a homer, for Firefighters. Adam McAllister homered and Tommy Jesson had two hits.

Jeter 7, FOP 3: Winning pitcher Ryan Wingerd had 11 strikeouts to lead Jeter. Chad Purdham had three hits, including a home run, while Aaron Davis added two hits and a homer. Chris Higgins led FOP with three hits, while Josh Keyton and Jason Embly combined for 15 strikeouts.

Halfway Little League

Gehr 10, Hoffman Automotive 5: Nick Adenhart and Bingie Bingaman combined on a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts to get the win for Gehr. Bingaman, Wes McIntosh, Donald Saum and Jimmy Young had two hits apiece for the winners. John Eavey had two hits for Hoffman.

Senior Interleague

Mr. Hardware 5, Wilson Ruritan 3: Winning pitcher Scott Ebersole gave up three hits in seven innings to lead Mr. Hardware. Marshall Mills had a home run for the winners, while Ebersole and Jim Whiteside added two hits apiece. Aaron Beard had two hits for Wilson Ruritan.

Hancock WMTA 14, Clear Spring FFR 7: Jacob Pittman had three hits to lead Hancock WMTA. Chris Dobrzanski added three hits and five RBIs, while C.J. Barton also had three hits. Dustin Yost finished with two hits and Doug Steiner had 16 strikeouts to get the win. J.R. Riggleman had two doubles and five RBIs and Cory McCarty added two hits for Clear Spring.

National Little League

Hartle's 12, Elks 7: Winning pitcher Dominic Christian struck out 14 and homered to lead Hartle's. Ryan Rau added three hits for the winners. David Seibert had three hits and a home run and Chris Reed added two hits for Elks.

Halfway Senior League

Beaver Mechanical 11, Funkstown Legion 3: Derick Rankin had three hits and Jake Marquis, Josh Smith and Kevin Shank added two apiece to lead Beaver Mechanical. Funkstown's Kyle Wilson and Travis Jordan had two hits apiece.

Maugansville Senior League

Pugh's 6, Hagerstown Trust 2: Milton Stamper had two doubles and a home run to lead Pugh's. Andy Caffarelli and Braden Nye added two hits each for the winners. Josh Houser and Jesse Bennaka each had two hits to lead Hagerstown Trust.
