Tuesday's roundup: Greencastle girls lose, still in state hunt

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Greencastle-Antrim lost 2-0 to Annville-Cleona in an PIAA District III semifinal game Tuesday, but still has a chance to win its way into the state tournament.

Greencastle (15-6) plays the consolation game in Harrisburg, Pa., Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against City Island. The winner earns a berth to the Pennsylvania State Tournament.

Annville-Cleona (25-0) scored both its runs on sacrifice flies despite a three-hitter by Greencastle pitcher Mandy Carr. Katie Buckley got Greencastle's only hit.


Junior golf schedule announced

The Tri-State Junior Golf Association has announced its summer tournament schedule.

The opener is June 16 at Cress Creek Golf Course in Shepherdstown, W.Va., followed by June 29 at Fountain Head Country Club; July 20 at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, Pa.; and July 27 at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown.


The Tournament of Champions is Aug. 10 at Beaver Creek Country Club.

Entry forms are available at the above golf courses. Boys and girls will play in three age groups: 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18.

The Dick Kelly Memorial Foundation will award four more scholarships and also grants to the Washington County Boys and Girls Clubs, the Washington County Junior Golf Program and Girls Inc.


West End Minor League

Callas 11, Western Enterprise 8: Richard Stump homered for Callas. Justin Leibrand was 3-for-3 and Tyler Whittaker was 2-for-2 for Western Enterprise.

Clear Spring Minor League

Blue Jays 8, Cubs 5: Danny Reed struck out 12 to lead the Blue Jays. Steven Munson, Leslie Morgan, Randy Leonard, Zach Reid and Reed with two hits each. Josh Bishop and Chipper Mellot had two hits for the Cubs.

Maugansville Little League

New York Life 13, Burkholder's 3: Mikkel Wallech, T.J. Hose and Casey Oyler had two hits each for New York Life. J.D. Cline had three hits for Burkholder's.

Conococheague Little League

Taylor Trucking 12, Wolfe's 2: Luther Davis, Matt Rouse, Jeff Ragland, Mike Vaters and Joseph Redden had two hits apiece for Taylor Trucking.

West End Little League

AFL-CIO 19, Moose 6: Winning pitcher Danny Carrol had three hits, including a grand slam and a two-run home run, for AFL-CIO. Lynn Creary had four hits and Jonathan Breehl had two hits for the winners. Aaron Wagner had two hits, including a home run, for Moose.

Federal Little League

Rotary 7, American Legion 6: Matt Ridenour and Steven Zerance had three hits each and Ben Lloyd had two hits, including a home run, for Rotary. Sean Morrissey had three hits for American Legion.

National Little League

Funkstown 15, Blue Gray 6: Jamie Mullenix had three hits, including a home run, Darren Sweeney had three hits and Gary Woffe had two hits for Funkstown. Chris Barnhart had three hits and Chad Dutrow and Justin Marshall had two hits for Blue Gray.

Valley Little League

Chewsville 12, Dorsey Brothers 2: Craig Henson and Josh Mitchell combined to pitch a no-hitter and Jason Seville had two hits for Chewsville.

Sharpsburg Little League

Company One 11, SAL 8: Winning pitcher Brad Stotlemyer had three hits, including a home run, for Company One. Josh Voy had three hits and Travis Byrd had two hits for the winners. Wes Collins and David Starliper had two hits each for SAL.

South Mountain Little League

Nationwide 6, Optimist 4: Jay Love had 12 strikeouts and two hits for Nationwide. Cory Van Cleave homered. Justin Irving had two hits for Optimist.

American Little League

FOP 10, VFW 5: B.J. Soto, Ben Smith and Michael Edwards had two hits each for FOP. Alonzo Shaul, Leroy Dotson and Ryan Brady had two hits each for VFW.

Goodwill 6, Funkstown Legion 0: James Price had 13 strikeouts and Ryan Renner had two hits for Funkstown.

Elks won the West Division and are the first half champions in the American League.

Clear Spring Little League

Cubs 10, Blue Jays 0: Jeremy Everitts pitched a one-hit shutout and had two hits. Josh Barnhart had two hits for the Cubs.

Halfway Little League

Valley Storage Bin 16, Redmen 0: Daniel Lynn and David Warrenfeltz had two hits each for Valley Storage Bin. Josh Smith and Matt Henneberger had two hits each for Redmen.

Smithsburg Little Sluggers

Homestyle Laundry 12, Mace Auto 0: Jamie Wiley and Andrew Bohan combined on a no-hitter to lead Homestyle Laundry. Scott Miller had two hits and four RBIs while Josh Baker had two hits, including a home run. Stephen Brown and Wiley had two hits each. Pitcher Kevin Jaye had five strikeouts for Mace.

Hancock Little League

Yankees 12, Tigers 2: Winning pitcher Tyler Younker threw a three-hitter and had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Yankees. Dwight Bard and John Elmore added two hits and three RBIs each.

Hagerstown Pony League

FOP 7, Goodwill 6: Mike Brooks and Josh Keyton each hit two home runs to lead FOP. Josh Carter and Scotty Rice each homered to power Goodwill.
