The man's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine cause of death, Taylor said.

The man was found in the yard of a home in the 11000 block of Sycamore Drive at about 11:45 p.m. after other occupants of the home smelled smoke and called 911, Taylor said.

Sixty firefighters quickly put out the blaze in the one-story ranch-style home, he said. The man found in the yard was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, he said.

Cause of the fire is unknown. Investigators were still trying to determine today where it started, Taylor said.

Damage to the home is estimated at $3,000, Taylor said.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department is also investigating the man's death.
