Weekend roundup - Livingston's win tournament

Livingston's-Pick's Place swept eight softball games over the weekend to win the Coors Light Invitational in Mercersburg, Pa.

Livingston's Pick's Place beat MTJ's 27-17 in the finals. Alan Harsh, Mick Byers, John Hartle, Jeff Reynolds, Kenny Kirby, Lew Thomas, Rocky Wills, Rick Grove and Billy Bakner all hit over .700 in the tournament for Livingston's, setting a team record for batting average in a tournament.

Pick's Place II wins at Pinesburg

Pick's Place II lost to Rotter Iron of Cumberland, Md., in the finals but scored 171 runs to take second overall and finish 9-2 in the Pinesburg Memorial Day Tournament. Mike McCauley, Brian Thomas and Mike Donauge each batted more than .600 for the tournament. Terry Getridge was named team MVP.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Williamsport finished second in the Joe Branzelle Invitational Tournament, losing to undefeated Frederick in the championship game.


Andy Brown had two hits and three RBIs to lead Williamsport to a win over Peters Township, Pa. in an earlier game in the quarterfinal round. Williamsport won the division and qualified for Monday's semifinals. Matt Bowman added two hits, while Joe Barton had a two-run home run in the second inning.

In the semifinal round, Isaac Henry tossed a shutout for Williamsport as it defeated Damascus. Henry and Bowman each led Williamsport with two hits, while Barton added a two-run home run.

David Stone had four hits, including two home runs, to lead Frederick (5-0) over Williamsport in the championship game. John West added a solo homer for Frederick, and Craig Butler added a two-run home run.

Funkstown 4, Biglerville 3

Spring Grove 14, Funkstown 5

Funkstown Legion beat Biglerville and lost to Spring Grove to go 3-1 to win the Dallastown Baseball Classic.

Shane Carbaugh was 2-for-4 with an RBI and finished with five strikeouts and two walks in the three-hitter championship game against Biglerville. Jason Cannon led off the sixth inning with a double, while Matt Jenkins had a bunt and Frankie Linton had an RBI single.

In the second game, Spring Grove scored all seven runs with one out in the fifth to blow the game open. Jenkins went 3-for-4 with a double, while Shane Carbaugh added two hits.


Big League

Williamsport 20, South County 4: Charles Dodson had two hits, including a home run, with five RBIs to lead Williamsport. Ralph Bradley also homered, and Justin Shank had two hits for the winners.

Clear Spring SAL 15, Maugansville 5: Winning pitcher Jeremy Duffy and Bryan Bishop each homered as Clear Spring SAL defeated Maugansville.

Matt Michael and Mike Yeakle added three hits each for the winners, while Ben Bussard had two hits.

Clear Spring Minor League

Astros 13, Orioles 1: Cody McCarthy had three hits to lead the Astros over the Orioles. Aaron Mills, Donnie Harkcom, Justin McIntyre, Derrick Mundy and Ryan Shiffler each added two hits for the winners. Mills was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts. Sam Mills and Roger Shoemaker each had triples for the Orioles.

Pony League

Hagerstown Floors 4, Firefighters 3: Winning pitcher Matt Mastiano combined with John Quail for 12 strikeouts for Hagerstown Floors. Tommy McCall had two hits including a homer. Gary Naile had 11 strikeouts in a losing effort for the Firefighters.

UAW 10, Hagerstown Floors 6: Sal Mariello had a homer as UAW beat Hagerstown Floors. Derek Haines added three hits including a homer for the winners, while Robert Peterson had three hits and Amanda McGhee had two hits. Hagerstown Floors was led by John Quail's two hits.

UAW 9, Troopers 5: Amanda McGhee and Robert Peterson had two hits each for UAW. Mike Thomas had two hits to lead the Troopers.

Conococheague Little League

Post 202 12, Byers Market 2: Will Roney had three hits to lead Post 202 over Byers Market. Derek Keith added two hits, including a three-run homer for the winners.

Post 202 3, Lions 2: Devin Hewitt and Will Roney combined for 11 strikeouts to get the win for Post 202. Roney had led the winners with three hits, while Tyler Cannon had two hits for the Lions.

Blue Ridge Adult League

Smithsburg Yankees 16, Chambersburg 5: Erick Poole had two homers, one of which was a grand slam, and had a total of five RBIs to lead the Smithsburg Yankees. Bobby Kegarise added two hits, including a grand slam homer and five RBIs. Bobby Miller, Chris Black, Eric Jones, Matt Caron and Travis Barnes each had two hits for the winners.

Chambersburg's Sam Miller led with three hits.

American Little League

FOP 4, Olympic Trophy 1: Jason Sellers had a home run to lead FOP over Olympic Trophy and to win the first half East. David Miller tossed a two-hitter for the win. Chris Connelly and Chris Carter each had two hits to lead Olympic Trophy.
