Expansion, business OK'd

May 25, 1998

Hagerstown's South End fire hall expansion and a skin and hair consulting business were approved by Hagerstown zoning officials on Wednesday night, said Matt Davis, a city planner.

Board of Zoning Appeals members voted 4-0 to allow South Hagerstown Fire Co. to expand its 409 W. First St. fire hall, Davis said.

Board approval was needed because the fire hall is in a residential area.

Fire officials have said they want to add one or two bays for fire engines at a cost of $150,000 to $200,000.

The board also approved a special exception at 400 N. Potomac St. for a hair and skin consulting business, Davis said. The exception was needed because the business is more than a hair salon.

Board members William Wantz, Anthony J. Dattilio and Fay Smith granted the exception by a 3-0 vote, Davis said. Member David C. Hanlin missed that part of the meeting.
