Martinsburg eliminates Hedgesville

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James Franklin went 4-for-4 Thursday to help Martinsburg to an 8-7 victory to eliminate Hedgesville from the West Virginia Class AAA Region II, Section 1 tournament game at Faulkner Park Stadium.

Tim Washington, Ronnie Albright and Vic Lupis added two hits each for Martinsburg (16-11). Washington had two RBIs.

Albright improved his record to 4-3. Franklin (6-2) got the save.

Hedgesville (17-13) was led by Brady Catlett's four hits. Jeremy Wishmyer added two hits, while D.D. Barrett had three hits, including a double.

Martinsburg meets Jefferson tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the sectional title at Hedgesville.

Mercersburg 10, Delaware Co. School 9

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Mercersburg scored six runs in the final two innings to beat Delaware County School in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Private School State Tournament.

Mercersburg, which allowed five unearned runs with three costly errors early, came back from a 9-4 deficit after 5 1/2 innings.


The Blue Storm rallied for three runs wiht two outs in the sixth, highlighted by RBI singles by Chris Catalini and Heath Vink. Vink and Tim Laddbush had two hits each to lead Mercersburg.

Mercersburg was down 9-7 with two outs and two on in the seventh until Brad Wineland tied the game with a two-run single to center field. Delaware County walked the bases loaded before bringing home the game-winning run with a balk.

Mercersburg plays in the semifinals on Saturday in Philadelphia.


Greencastle-Antrim 6, Delone Catholic 3

NEWVILLE, Pa. - Megan Williams had two hits and two RBIs to lead No. 7 Greencastle over Delone Catholic in the second round of the PIAA District 3 tournament.

Katie Beam added three hits, including a double, for Greencastle (14-6). Winning pitcher Mandy Carr pitched pitched a complete game for her 13th victory.

Delone (19-3) was led by Sue Smith who had three hits with a triple and two runs scored.

Greencastle will play in the District 3 semifinals on Tuesday.


Maugansville Little League

New York Life 19, Executeone 1: Casey Oyler had two hits, including a home run, to lead New York Life. Jesse McAllister, T.J. Hose and Brooks Whitson each added three hits, while Mikkel Wallech had two hits for New York Life.

Hagerstown Pony League

Troopers 12, Firefighters 4: Billy Keyes had three home runs to lead Troopers. Frank McAllister added three hits and Steve Heagy also homered while winning pitcher Danny Fowler and Keyes combiened for 15 strikeouts. Firefighters were led by Gary Naile with two hits, including a home run.

Hagerstown Floors 14, Elks 1

Winning pitcher Matt Mastiano had 15 strikeouts for Hagerstown Floors. Tommy McCall and Steve Miles each had two hits while John Quail added a homer for the winners.

Conococheague Little League

Redmen 17, Byers Market 1: Josh Bowers had two hits to lead Redmen. Aaron Buchman had two hits for Byers Market.

Sharpsburg Little League

Company 1 11, American Trust Bank 5: Brad Stottlemyer threw a four-hitter with 15 strikeouts for Company 1. Josh Hoy and Mike Dowell led Company 1 with three hits each. Luke Hintze had two hits to lead American Trust.

Valley Little League

Rocky's 10, Dorsey Brothers 0: T.J. Bowser and Chris Brown combined for a two-hitter wiht eight strikeouts to lead Rocky's. Bowser, Zach Kieffer, Jeff Sprecher, Shawn Mullen, David McShery and John Summerville each had two hits.

Halfway Senior League

Beaver Mechanical 23, Carpet Gallery 5: Brent Hoover, Cliff Barnhart and Justin Nigh had three hits each to lead Beaver Mechanical. Mike Ridgely, Matt Melby, Ryan Driggers and Kevin Shank each added two hits as Beaver Mechanical won the first-half championship with a 9-1 record. Carpet Gallery was led by Walter Drill and Sean Gregg with two hits each.

Valley Senior League

Jeter Paving 16, NARG 5: Gary Bloyer had four hits to lead Jeter Paving. Eric Martin had three hits and Jimmy Fortese had two for Jeter. NARG's Jason McNabb had three hits. Jeremy Fager, Harry Baker, Aaron Showe and John King each added two hits.

CSL Softball

Supreme Block 12, Phil & Jerry's 11: Lindsey Parks and Samantha Keller had three hits each for Supreme Block while Amanda Rice and Carey Johnson each added two hits.

Custom Glass 13, Michael's Printing 10: Jeanette Martin had four hits while Amber Barkdoll and Ashton Mitchell added three hits apiece to lead Custom Glass. Michael's Printing was led by Jenny Lowe, Angie Ruck and Kasie Beaver with two hits each.

Shear Techniques 10, Five Forks 8: Shannon Fowlkes and Heather Bywaters led Shear Techniques with two hits each. Five Forks' Andrea Shockey, Becky Shifflet and Tara Beckner each had three hits.
