C.M. Offray opens outlet store

Production snafus at the C.M. Offray & Son Inc. ribbon manufacturing plant in Hagerstown will mean lower prices on thousands of different ribbons and related items at a new outlet store across the street.

Local officials welcomed the Offray Ribbon Outlet Store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning.

The store answers a long-time demand, said administrative assistant Susan Mongan, who is overseeing the project.

"We've been here since 1922. Probably since 1923 the folks in this area have wanted us to do something like this," Mongan said.

The store, which opened April 13, will sell only irregular items, she said.

The irregularities won't be noticeable to the average person, except in outlet-style prices, Morgan said.

For example, a ribbon's shade might be a touch off the standard, she said.

The company has hired a manager and two part-time workers to staff the store, at 858 Willow Circle, Mongan said.

The plan is to hire additional help as traffic increases, she said.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
