Brown's hit lifts Suns

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Billy Brown drove home the winning run with a single to center field in the seventh inning Wednesday to lift the Hagerstown Suns to a 5-4 South Atlantic League victory over the Charleston RiverDogs.

Vernon Wells reached second on an infield single off reliever Elliott Brown and throwing error by shortstop Nestor Perez before scoring on Brown's hit.

Hagerstown reliever Brian Bowles (1-1) got the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts.

The Suns (26-18) broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth on Jesse Zepeda's RBI double and took a 3-1 lead after five innings as Tony Peters scored on a wild pitch.

Hagerstown held a 4-1 lead in the sixth when Mike Strange reached on an error and eventually scored on Cesar Izturis' fielder's choice.

Charleston chased Suns starter Clayton Andrews during its three-run sixth to tie the game, highlighted by RBI singles by Steve Neuberger and Toby Hall.

Jaron Seabury pitched the ninth to earn his sixth save.

Notes - The completion of the protested game between Hagerstown and the Cape Fear Crocs has been moved to Friday at 6:05 p.m. instead of Saturday. The game was moved to accommodate to Crocs' and Fayetteville, N.C., and their celebration of the city's birthday.
