HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Brady Catlett had two hits, including a three-run home run, to lead Hedgesville to a 10-0 win over Martinsburg.

Winning pitcher J.R. Fitzwater (9-2) gave up two hits, struck out five and walked two for Hedgesville (17-11). Fitzwater also had two hits with an RBI double. Brad Spies added three RBIs for the winners.

James Franklin took the loss for Martinsburg (14-11). The Bulldogs play at Jefferson tonight at 7:30.

Fannett-Metal 7, S. Fulton 4

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Mike Arnold had two hits, including a triple and an RBI to lead Fannett-Metal over Southern Fulton.

Stu Moats added two hits and an RBI for Fannett-Metal, while John Greenwalt was the winning pitcher.

Southern Fulton's Mike Pilli had two hits and an RBI, while Robert Oakman had two RBIs.


Smithsburg 15, St. James 4


ST. JAMES - Patrick Bergstrom had four goals and two assists to lead Smithsburg to a win over St. James.

Chris Keller added three goals and two assists for Smithsburg (13-1). Ryan Bergstrom finished with two goals and four assists, while Adam Metz had two goals and one assist and Justin Martin added two goals. Evan Hunt had 10 saves for the win.

Willie Cutler and Chip Davis each had two goals for St. James (6-7). Goalkeeper Chris Turner had 13 saves.


HJC's Mason signs with SLU

Hagerstown Junior College track and field athlete Duriel Mason signed a full scholarship with Southeastern Louisiana University, an NCAA Division I school in Hammond, La.

Mason was a three-time National Junior College Championship qualifier at HJC. He has career bests of 23 feet, 8 inches in the long jump and 46-11 in the triple jump. As a senior at LaPlata High School in 1996, Mason won the Class 3A State Championship in the long jump.

Mason will be enrolling at SLU in the spring semester.


Big League

Williamsport 12, Maugansville 2: Winning pitcher Eugene Danfield and Jeff Savage each had two hits for Williamsport. Danfield struck out seven. Barry Smoot had two hits for Maugansville.

Federal Little League

Rotary 8, Alsatia 6: Ben Lloyd and Colby Thompson each had two hits for Rotary. Will Mulieri led Alsatia with two hits, while David Macht had 11 strikeouts in a losing effort.

Hagerstown Pony League

Goodwill 8, Firefighters 2: Josh Carter had eight strikeouts in relief to lead Goodwill. Carter, Nick Keller and Corey Mowen each had two hits for the winners. Gary Naile had 10 strikeouts for Firefighters.

Hagerstown Floors 4, FOP 3: Winning pitcher John Quail had nine strikeouts for Hagerstown Floors. Jason Carter led the winners with a two-run homer. FOP's Jason Embly had eight strikeouts, while Derick St. Clair had a home run.

Halfway Little League

Valley Storage Bin 4, Gehr 2: Valley Storage Bin defeated Gehr to clinch the first-half championship. Jesse Boggs pitched a complete game for the winners, striking out 11 and allowing four hits. Marcus Scott had three RBIs for Valley Storage Bin. Gehr's Devon Vinci had two hits.

Conococheague Little League

Redmen 16, Wolfe's 10: Andy Taylor had two doubles to lead Redmen over Wolfe's. Caleb Benchoff added two hits for the winners. Dustin Bachtell had two hits for Wolfe's.

CSL Girls Softball

Five Forks 6, Phil and Jerry's 4: Andrea Shockey and Kristy Young had two hits apiece for Five Forks. Amy Bentley and Candice McGowan had two hits each for Phil and Jerry's.

West End Little League

AFL-CIO 18, VFW 4: Derrick Palmer and Brian Shifflet had four hits each to lead AFL-CIO over VFW. Trevor Cobb added three hits for the winners, while Jonathan Brail and Glen Creary had two hits each. Danny Carroll homered. Sonny Thomas had two hits for VFW.

Coca-Cola 19, VFW 10: Cory Berger had three hits as Coca-Cola beat VFW. Mike West, Jason Fitzgerald and Jason Curry added two hits apiece for the winners. Sonny Thomas and Cole Capshaw led VFW with four hits each.

Senior Interleague

Valley NARG 8, Conococheague Post 202 4: Travis Barnhart, Aaron Showe and Sean Hunt combined for a one-hitter for Valley NARG. Showe had two hits, including a home run, while Brandon Strawther added two hits.

Jeter Paving 8, Homewood 7: Eric Martin had three hits to lead Jeter Paving. Jimmy Fortese, Gary Bloyer, Cody Anderson, John Bussard and Zack Higdon added two hits apiece for the winners. Michael Stevens had three hits, including a home run, for Homewood. Floyd Harell added two hits.

Redmen 24, VFW 5: Eric Presgraves had five hits as Redmen beat VFW. Regis Line added four hits, including a home run, for the winners. Justin Lee had three hits and John Griffith had two hits, including a homer. VFW's Will Whiteside had two hits, including a double.
