The March of Dimes will hold its 29th WalkAmerica 1998 annual walk in Hagerstown on Sunday.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Long Meadow Shopping Center. The walk begins at 9 a.m.
WalkAmerica is held in 1,500 communities across the nation and in all 50 states. More than 13 million people participate in the walk each year.
Last year, 389 walkers in Washington County raised more than $30,000. This year's WalkAmerica goal for Washington County is $35,000.
The money raised by the walk is used to help the March of Dimes fund "Breakthroughs for Babies," a nationwide effort to prevent birth defects and infant mortality. Locally, the money provides community services, advocacy and education efforts, such as support for the Parent Child Center and the Washington County Health Department's "Right From the Start" program.
